Another not so well known monument at the Luneta is that marking the site where Fr. Mariano Gomez, Fr. Jose Burgos, and Fr. Jacinto Zamora or collectively known as GOMBURZA were executed on 17 February 1872 after being falsely accused of masterminding the failed Cavite Mutiny. The target is Father Burgos and the real reason for his execution is to suppress his liberal ideas that favored the Filipino clergy and, according to historian Martin Tinio, his strict accounting of church finances.
