Non-free photos of living people

Hello! All files must meet the wmf:Resolution:Licensing_policy and it means they have to be under a free license or meet the requirements for non-free media (EDP).

Italian Wikipedia have some (old) permissions where files are allowed to be on Wikipedia but not under a free license. An example is the files in Categoria:Copyright Federazione Italiana Rugby.

The wmf specifically mention that “An EDP may not allow material where we can reasonably expect someone to upload a freely licensed file for the same purpose, such as is the case for almost all portraits of living notable individuals.” (My bold marking)

So I think the use of such photos does not meet the wmf licensing policy unless there is a very good rationale for each photo.

Perhaps someone could ask if the copyright holder is willing to give a permission for a free license and if not I think some of the photos have to be deleted.--MGA73 (msg) 20:26, 24 set 2024 (CEST)[rispondi]

In the case of Pierpaolo Pedroni he's dead. --Sciking(Parliamo?) 20:42, 24 set 2024 (CEST)[rispondi]
@MGA73 Thanks for pointing it out. If you read WP:EDP, on it.wiki we apply exactly the same licensing policy you mention for unfree files, and we don't have Fair Use (which is a big difference with en.wiki, for example, in respecting authors' rights).
If you find some files that violate it, feel free to open a DR or request a speedy deletion with the usual templates.
BTW, here the Village Pump is not used for such doubts: there are specific pages for doubts about Wikipedia procedures. Cheers --Ruthven (msg) 21:07, 24 set 2024 (CEST)[rispondi]
We are not used to see "bold marking" in the Village Pump's messages.--Bramfab (msg) 10:28, 25 set 2024 (CEST)[rispondi]
Thank you both. Sorry about the place and the bold marking. You are welcome to move the text and/or un-bold. --MGA73 (msg) 16:28, 27 set 2024 (CEST)[rispondi]
