Il Wesselsbron virus (WESSV) è un arbovirus della famiglia Flaviviridae, genere Flavivirus, appartiene al IV gruppo dei virus a ((+) ssRNA). Il virus WESSV appartiene al gruppo dei virus della febbre gialla, gruppo costituito da nove specie del genere flavivirus.[1]

modificaIl WESSV venne isolato per la prima volta nel 1957 in Sud Africa, esso è presente in Zimbabwe e in Kenya.[2]
Il virus ha come vettore Aedes aegypti, Aedes cf. juppi/caballus, Aedes mcintoshi, Desmodillus auricularis e Culex quinquefasciatus e come animali ospiti: l'uomo, pecora/ovini, cavallo.[2]
